Alta Campground is located in Bitterroot National Forest of southwest Montana. Near historical town of Alta, the first Ranger Station in the United States. Hughes Creek was the site of early placer gold mining. At an elevation of 4,500 feet, the campground encompasses 6 acres. There are 27 campsites with access to water and restrooms, as well as a garbage removal service. The West Fork of the Bitterroot River runs along this campground providing fishing opportunities. The maximum recommended trailer length for the area is 40 - 58 feet. Pets are allowed, but dogs must be on leashes. Please limit your stay to 14 days and a small fee is required. Season of operation depends upon weather conditions and accessibility.
